Mazda recall in effect for 215,000 vehicles

The day after the GM recall of crossover SUVs was announced, a Mazda recall was announced also. The GM recall is a little less pressing, as the Mazda recall is of a fault in a vital system. Mazda has noticed a flaw in the power steering system, whereas GM merely has some difficulties with seat belts. Mazda kept on eye on cars sold within the U.S. after noticing the defect in Japan last year. Mazda is issuing a recall within the United States to address the flaw.

The Mazda recall is being initiated over a fault in the power steering pump, as outlined by the New York Times. The power steering system can build internal rust, which can flake off into the power steering pump, causing the pump to stop working properly or shut off completely. The defect can shut the power steering system off, making steering much harder and possibly cause accidents. Mazda knew of the problem by June of 2009, and also the business has been keeping an eye out for how many automobiles it really occurred in.

Japan was where they found out

Mazda started a recall in all but name, dubbed an “improvement campaign,” in Japan after first noticing the defect. There were more incidents noticed there than have been observed in America. Mazda preemptively notified Mazda dealers and provided technical information on how the problem should be fixed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration started an investigation, as outlined by the Salt Lake Tribune. .

Which Mazda vehicles are affected?

There are 215,000 of the models in question within the United States of America alone, which are Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 autos from model years 2007 to 2009. Owners should take them in to an authorized Mazda dealership to have the problem fixed. Power steering issues are significant. You could wind up in a crash if your power steering locks up, as the vehicle will become much harder to steer.
