Linda McMahon has just received the nomination from the Republican Party to run for the United States Senate. One seat is being fought for this November. Linda McMahon is indeed the wife of Vince McMahon Jr., and she is the previous CEO of WWE Entertainment. She stepped down from her position within the business to run for the Senate seat that will be vacant soon, as Senator Chris Dodd is retiring as soon as his term finishes.
GOP can smell what McMahon is cooking
Linda McMahon is making a large point of principle with her run for office by financing the entire thing herself, with no donations from taxpayer election funds, interest groups, or Political Action Committees whatsoever. She’s already spent $ 22 million of her own money and is just fine with more having to be doled out by November, according to ABC. Her opponent Dick Blumenthal, the Democrat candidate, has served as Attorney General of Connecticut since 1991, after serving terms within the Connecticut House of Representatives and Connecticut Senate.
Is her campaign platform a steel cage?
Linda McMahon, if a label must be affixed, could be very easily classified as a neo-conservative. She advocates for fiscally conservative policies, specific deregulation and creating jobs in the private sector are big topics for her. She has come out in support of Obama’s strategy in Afghanistan, but is notably hawkish on Iran. She’s already created controversy with mainline Republicans, having donated cash to a Republican pro-choice PAC, though opposed to partial-birth abortions. She is friendlier to LGBT issues than the President has seemed to be so far, as she is for the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policies and doesn’t think the federal government should have a say concerning gay marriage.
What’s the deal?
Well, it is another famous and rich person running for office. It’s not the somebody has done so, but in fairness her organizational skills as CEO took her business to being almost as popular as NASCAR and is now the only publicly traded pro-wrestling organization. (The McMahons own a large majority of the shares.) She has some very popular platforms, and she may well prove to be exactly what voters are looking for. So what are you going to do, brother, when Wrestle mania goes to Washington?
